Important
Things to Consider...
When choosing the carriage company
for your special occasion, there are several details too
check to insure the complete success of your very important
day.
Ask for a copy of the company's contract. Be sure
it specifies in writing the date, time and location of
the event, and the amount of time and travel distance
included for the amount agreed upon. Most
contracts begin at one hour/two miles for a set rate,
but be aware it takes approximately
15-20 minutes for a horse to travel one mile
so plan your event accordingly to insure sufficient
time for photographs, etc.
Know the policies and reputation of the company
you select. Do they have a history of being on time,
horse and carriage spotlessly clean, professional and
experienced driver well-groomed and appropriately
dressed to fit the occasion? What happens in the event
of extreme inclement weather?
If possible, view and select the carriage and horse(s)
for your event taking into consideration that white
horses are preferred and the first to be booked for weddings
and quinceaneras.
Are decorations included in the basic costs, and
if so, will they match your color scheme?
If desired, is a "Just Married"
sign available for the carriage?
Take advantage of this fairy-tale opportunity for
memorable photographs...but discuss this with both
your photographer and carriage company how to make the
best use of the time provided.
Most important...check on the type of insurance
the carriage company carries. Maricopa County requires
a $1,000,000 liability, Scottsdale requires $2,000,000.
Is the company adhering to the requirements
in the location of your event? It has been revealed that
one carriage company in Arizona illegally
operates on their home owners policy.
For your information...
In the State of Arizona, horse-drawn carriages
are permitted on any public streets (with the exception
of freeways) as long as they are equipped with the necessary
safety equipment such
as brakes and rear lights. KC's Classic Carriage
Company recommends (and provides) that carriage travel
on streets with extremly fast or heavy traffic is followed
at a discrete distance
with a safety vehicle with flashing
lights to warn oncoming cars of a slow-moving vehicle
ahead.
Our horses are all shod with rubber skid-proof
shoes to protect the delicate surfaces they may walk
upon as well as the shock to their legs from the hard-surfaced
streets.
